African American National Biography

Family Heritage House Museum Director/Co-Founder Fredi Brown is one of 4,100 subjects in the 2008 edition of African American National Biography (AANB), an 8-volume publication that "reflects the perseverance, creativity, and achievements of black Americans over five centuries." Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham are the editors.

Mrs. Brown's biography was written by Dorothy A. Washington, a librarian in the Black Cultural Center on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Originally from Manatee County, Ms. Washington met Mrs. Brown at the Family Heritage House Museum several years ago during an extensive tour/visit to the facility. The two kept in touch over the years, and, in 2006, Ms. Washington contacted Mrs. Brown for detailed information on her life.

In March 2008, Mrs. Brown received a surprise delivery at the museum: eight volumes of books with the stories of such notables as Arthur Ash, Louis Armstrong, Oprah Winfrey, and thousands more — including Fredi Sears Brown. The books are available to the public for viewing at the museum.
